The Natural Resources Division provides legal advice and representation for the State of Idaho on all natural resource and environmental law matters. The Natural Resources Division consists or four sections.
The Natural Resources Section handles legal matters related to agriculture, fish and game, state endowment lands, submerged lands, mining, state parks, and recreational activities. The Section represents the following state agencies and boards:
The Water Resources Section handles matters related to water right licensing and administration, well drilling, stream channel maintenance, dam safety, water rights adjudications, state water planning, and water resource financial programs. The Section represents the Department of Water Resources and the Idaho Water Resources Board.
The Environment Section handles environmental matters related to air and water quality, solid and hazardous waste, as well oversight of the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. The Section represents the Department of Environmental Quality and the Idaho Environmental Quality Board.
The General Litigation Section handles complex state and federal natural resource and environmental law litigation. This Section also defends the sovereign interests of the State of Idaho in federal litigation under the Endangered Species Act and the National Environment Policy Act. In addition, this Section is responsible for representing the State of Idaho in Native American right natural resource and environmental law matters.
