Boise Man Sentenced for Lewd Conduct with a Minor Under 16
(Boise) - Mark Eugene Walter, 51, of Boise was sentenced today to serve at least two years in prison and up to ten years for lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Fourth District Judge Darla Williamson also ordered Walter to pay $1,000 in restitution to the victim.
Walter pleaded guilty to lewd conduct with a minor and enticing a minor over the Internet on July 8, 2004. Walter met his victim through an Internet chat room and enticed the child to engage in a sexual act. Walter admitted being a sex addict and admitted having made 100 sexual contacts via the Internet.
"I would encourage parents to monitor Internet use by their children," Attorney General Wasden said. "Sexual predators frequent teen chat rooms and pose as minors to search for victims. Parents need to be very clear about the dangers that can be associated with chat rooms. Predators are very skilled at gaining information about a child's interests, the school they attend and/or their home."
The Special Prosecutions Unit of the Attorney General's Criminal Law Division handled the case at the request of Ada County Prosecuting Attorney Greg Bower.
