Former Preston Mayor Charged
(Boise) – The Office of the Attorney General filed a criminal complaint today charging former Preston Mayor Jay Brent Heusser with a felony crime of presenting a false claim, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said.
Sixth District Magistrate Judge Eric S. Hunn issued a summons for Heusser to appear for arraignment on November 18, at 10:00 AM.
The complaint charges Heusser with one count of presenting a false claim. The charge alleges that on or about November 13, 2000, Jay Brent Heusser presented the Preston City Council with a claim for $1,300 for reimbursement for travel to Washington, D.C., with the knowledge that the claim submitted had been previously paid for by the Franklin County Drug Endowment Fund and failed to advise the Preston City Council of the previous payment.
Under Idaho law, the maximum penalty for presenting a false claim is five years in prison.
Wasden said the case is being prosecuted by his office at the request of the Franklin County Prosecutor R. Todd Garbett after investigators from the Idaho State Police investigated the alleged crime.
