Marcus Young Pleads Guilty to Two Felony Charges
(Boise) – Marcus Young, 32, of Nampa pleaded guilty today to two felony crimes. Young pleaded guilty to one count of possession of sexually exploitive material in violation of Idaho Code § 18-1507A(2) and one count of destruction of evidence in violation of Idaho Code § 18-2603. Third District Judge George D. Carey ordered a pre-sentence investigation and a psychosexual evaluation. The court scheduled a sentencing hearing for October 3.
A Canyon County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Young on September 13, 2007. The indictment charged Young with five counts of possession of sexually exploitive material and four counts of destruction of evidence.
In August 2006, the Canyon County Commissioners asked the Idaho State Police to investigate allegations against Young, who was employed as the county’s Information Technology Manager. The commissioners subsequently petitioned the court to appoint the Attorney General as special prosecutor.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, the Attorney General dismissed the remaining charges.
Young will be required to register as a sex offender as a result of the guilty plea to possession of sexually exploitive material. The maximum penalty for possession of sexually exploitive material is 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The maximum penalty for destruction of evidence is 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
