Roy Lyons Sentenced for Misdemeanor Assault
(Boise) – Roy L. Lyons, 45, of Homedale entered a plea of guilty to misdemeanor assault and was sentenced today in Second District Court in Grangeville. District Judge John Bradbury sentenced Lyons to 90 days in the county jail and ordered him to pay a $300 fine. The court suspended 45 days of the jail sentence and ordered Lyons to serve 2 years probation.
The charge stems from an incident on White Bird Hill on U.S. Highway 95 in August of 2007. A bicyclist complained to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Department that Lyons had threatened her, stating that he would force her to go with him in his vehicle against her will and force her to perform a sexual act.
Idaho County Prosecuting Attorney Kirk MacGregor referred the case to the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit. The Attorney General charged Lyons with attempted first degree kidnapping. However, after a three-day trial in 2008, the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
“In light of the facts of this case, we believe this was an appropriate resolution,” Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. “By pleading guilty to this charge, Mr. Lyons has admitted to his criminal behavior.”
