(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a Canyon County woman was sentenced Thursday, September 24, for attempted petit theft.
37-year-old Crystal J. Farrand, of Caldwell, pleaded guilty immediately prior to her sentencing.
Judge Shane Darrington sentenced Farrand to 24 months of probation and ordered a withheld judgment. The court also ordered the defendant to serve 162 hours of community service by July 2021. Farrand will also pay court costs, in an amount to be determined by the court.
An investigation revealed that on June 18, 2014, Farrand submitted a fraudulent progress note/time sheet to her employer, a Meridian-based home health service provider. Farrand worked as a personal care attendant and falsely submitted information showing she had provided care to a Medicaid client when she had not. Her employer learned of the fraud and notified authorities.
Deputy Attorney General Jessica Cafferty in the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit prosecuted the case.
The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) works in conjunction with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute individuals who commit fraud in the administration of the Idaho Medicaid Program, the provision of medical assistance and in the activities of providers of medical assistance and services under the state plan.
