(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a Kootenai County man was sentenced Thursday, January 2, for provider fraud.
53-year-old Eric R. Nelson, of Dalton Gardens, pleaded guilty in October 2019.
First District Judge Cynthia Meyer imposed a unified sentence of four years with two years fixed. She then suspended the sentence and placed the defendant on two years of supervised probation. The court also ordered Nelson to pay a $1,000 fine, court costs and restitution in an amount to be determined. Nelson was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, to be served on weekends.
An investigation by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit determined that in 2015, Nelson was a Community Support Worker for his stepson. During the first five months of 2015, Nelson billed Medicaid for services he did not provide.
Deputy Attorney General Rondee Blessing prosecuted the case.
