(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced the sentencing of a Post Falls man for insurance fraud.

First District Judge Barbara Buchanan sentenced Spencer St. Mars on Friday, June 11.

St. Mars, 26, pleaded guilty just before sentencing. The court imposed a jail sentence of seven days, which was then suspended. The court granted St. Mars a withheld judgment and placed him on probation. In addition, he was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service, pay $740 in restitution, a $300 fine and $245 in court costs.

St. Mars admitted that on March 28, 2018, his Chevrolet truck was involved in a collision. The truck was not covered by insurance at the time. Later that day, St. Mars filed an auto claim with insurance provider USAA for a tow bill and claimed he had just purchased the truck. When asked for a bill of sale, he produced a document he later admitted he had falsified.

Deputy Attorney General Nicole Schafer in the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case. The Idaho Department of Insurance investigated.
